Back To Work

One month off and I'm finally back to work. It's good to be back actually. After a while you actually start to miss making calls and being with the guys. I'm out at Station 12 today. Showed up at 7s this morning and was greeted with "Go to 12s" just as I finished saying good morning to everyone. I expected to get sent out though. Having been off all this time it was definitely my turn to get shipped out. 12s is chill too. They had a house fire just before 8am that I missed as I was enroute from 7s to 12s. Christmas tree. There's always a couple of those every Christmas. Other than the fire I missed it's been a chill shift. A handful of medical calls and a wreck. I had to ride with Medic 2 to Spohn Memorial with a lady who seriously looked like she was gonna code, but fortunately didn't. I hadn't been back to Memorial since I dropped and got off the ambulance. I don't miss it.

It's good to be off the box fo' sho'.

I think tomorrow I'll try my best to do a full recap of my vacation. I'm sure I'm gonna leave stuff out, but at this point if I wait any longer all I'll remember are the pics. I had some really good times. This last weekend closeout in Dallas was epic. Tailgating was a blast. The game was a heartbreaker but well worth the price of admission. I'm hoping this road trip to the game along with tailgating can be yet another yearly tradition for me along with Vegas and now Bourbon Street. You should have seen how far some of these guys go to show that they are true fans. I took video of this one guy's truck.. Oh my god. you'll have to see it to believe it. But I'm getting ahead of myself. I'll get to all that tomorrow. It'll be worth the wait.
I saw a good, but very strange movie last night called "All Good Things". If you have Netflix put it in your queue. In fact, I think I'm gonna add it to my movie list (have you seen my epic movie list? It's over at the bottom of the sidebar to the right ->). The movie Is based on true events which always makes movies cooler in my opinion. Ryan Gosling, Kirsten Dunst. I don't want to give too much away, but Gostling plays the part of a real estate heir who, because he watched his mother kill herself when he was 7, is very distant not only from his father but sometimes from reality. He meets Kirsten Dunst, falls in love, but as he grows older and concedes to joining the family business their perfect life becomes not so perfect. That's actually a great summary isn't it. I should get a job in movie summarizing for Netflix. My work is done here. Just watch it. I warned you about the bit about it getting strange, but trust me, it's a good movie.
Spoon Boy: Do not try to bend the segue. That's impossible. Instead try to realize the truth.
Neo: What truth?
Spoon Boy: There is no segue.
Neo: There is no segue?
Spoon Boy: Then you'll realize there is no transition from Eric's last paragraph to his next. There is only yourself.

I'm addicted to this book. "The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership" by John Maxwell. I've made it a goal to read a new book each month. This particular book happens to be on leadership. Thank you, Captain Obvious. I know I have the tendency to sound like my life is a non-stop party in these blogs but that's only because I have a really good schedule and really fun friends. Okay I even laughed a little as I said that. I do enjoy a good time, but I think part of the reason I have a successful side business with Ignite is because I try hard to learn from those who are successful. These people don't become successful by coincidence. It's equal parts timing, opportunity, and drive.

My mind has always been ultra analytical and when I study things I tend to process them like they are part of an equation. So to me, if you fill in the right variables into the equation then you'll have the right result, and only positive things can come from filling your mind with positive input. I have a "Reminders" app in my iPhone that I like to use to give me a daily reminder of things I've read that I don't want to forget. "If your hope is to make a fortune in a day you're not going to be successful." "Champions don't get made in the ring, they are merely recognized there." And especially the one above, "The secret of success in life is for a man to be ready for his time when it comes." It's a great book. I highly recommend anything by John Maxwell. (Note to self: make a "must read" list to go with the "must watch" list. Note to self accepted).
By the way, as I started typing this on my iPad I've been tweeting my new good friend TB on how to keep her house from burning down. Now that's multitasking. She just blogged about it. Read her post by clicking here. Who would've known you could use twitter for good. See, TB, I do save lives. That's all for now. I need my sleep. I look forward to tomorrow.
