Why today? Well, because it’s October 3rd. If that means nothing to you I suggest you go watch “Mean Girls” now…it’s on Netflix. Seriously, I’ll wait.
For the rest of you who know that on Wednesdays we wear pink and despite Gretchen’s best attempts “fetch” is never going to be a thing, it’s time for the annual reminder of what Mean Girls Day should be about.
In the midst of a presidential election that has been many things, including mean, it seems incredibly relevant and important. While the title may have the word “girls” in it, I think we can all learn a lesson here.
So what’s the magical lesson to be learned? You might want to write this down…I’ll wait…Are you ready? Okay, here we go…
BE KIND.
I realize that’s an oversimplification, but for the sake of time, I’m condensing it.
When dealing with people and ideas that we don’t understand or agree with, it can be very easy (and tempting) to apply “us vs. them” labels. Which in turn can lead to “meanness,” on either or both sides.
While it’s tempting to meet this “meanness” with equal or greater nastiness, consider today your official reminder to rise above, and be kind. You might be surprised by what you get back, and at the very least you can have some satisfaction in knowing that you at least were the bigger person.
