…believe in Spooks

On this, the final Flick Friday before All Hallow's Eve, it's customary that I share my favorite movies for the season...and don't worry that's exactly what I'm going to do. First, a word of warning...

...some of these movies are not spooky at all.

Don't get me wrong. I love a good scary movie, about once every few years. Then I like to take a break while my brain processes the psychological horror brilliance I just witnessed. But if you like to more frequently partake, I can recommend, " The Haunting of Hill House," which was excellent. It will be my most current scary movie/show recommendation for the foreseeable future, while I process.

Now, onto "Halloweentown" (a franchise which Disney happens to be streaming 24/7 through Halloween) and other Mickey Mouse adjacent tales of "terror."

"Meet Me in St. Louis" is certainly a movie for all seasons, and rivals "The Nightmare Before Christmas" (which is not listed here, but obviously it's here in spirit) in its ability to bridge the span of time from Halloween through Christmas, but this classic film's Halloween scenes have always been one of my favorites (and the Christmas one isn't so bad either).

"ParaNorman" is about as scary as this list is going to get, and frankly if it wasn't for the distraction of the incredible stop-motion animation, I might find this movie far scarier...but the craftsmanship is just stunning. I mean, the boy is haunted by dead people.

Finally, it's just not Halloween without the Sanderson Sisters, especially when they're celebrating 15 years of magic. "Hocus Pocus" is required viewing for the season.
