As a beach aficionado, one of the things I was most excited for on our Hawaii vacation was seeing some of Maui’s different colored beaches. The sand itself was more like salt and pepper. The black sand was created when lava cinders were broken down overtime by the wind and the waves. The white sand washed up onto the shore in the form of pulverized shells and coral. It was a little tricky accessing this hidden beach (we had to drive down a worn down dirt road) but it was definitely worth the effort. We even managed to convince my Dad to get out of the car to take a look–now that’s saying something. Looking forward to finding the red sand beach next!
