So the hot question I keep getting asked by other bloggers is if I plan on going to BlogHer13 – a big blogger conference for women in Chicago. The answer – I’m not sure. I’d love a chance to network with other bloggers. I’d love to take some workshops to figure out things about blogging that baffle a poor simple writer’s mind – like SEO, marketing, keywords, and a plethora of other things that make me break out in hives just thinking about.
However, the last thing I want is to go to a tradeshow-like place where vendors are asking me to represent them. I don’t write sponsored posts, I don’t do product reviews, and I only take advertisers for my sidebar advertising, not as a brand representative. That’s not what my blog is all about. I have no problem with those who do, it’s a great way to make a living, it’s just not my way.
I write because my goal is to make people laugh, think, cry, snort, or sometimes all of those at the same time. I want my blog to move people in one way or another. I think humor is one of the best ways to unite – and it’s a great forum to share my parenting-gone-wrong stories and some of the insanity of our lives as grown-ups who still feel like children. My goal for future of the blog is simple – I’d love for more people to enjoy it and relate to it, or at least get a chuckle at it.
So help me make my decision. What do you think? Have you been before? What have you gotten out of it? Why did YOU go/or why are YOU going? Please share the good, the bad, and the ugly.
