Borrowed Inspiration for Your Week: The Last of the Star Trekkie Stitch, the World’s Greatest Re-imagined Detective, and Getting Back on Track

Good morning bloggers, hope you had a good weekend and your new week is starting off with a bang.  I finally got all the threads I needed for my HAED project only to realize I’d bought the wrong size cloth.  I got the right dimension, but on 18 count cloth when the design was specified for 25ct.  So, that was a mini disaster (especially since there are no stores anywhere near my house that carry anything other than 14-count-aida cloth).  But I’ve ordered the write cloth and once it makes its journey over seas I can finally start on my project.

In the meantime I’ve been working on my mini-trek characters and I’ve started a bookmark for myself (pictures of that to come Wednesday).  But here are the three Star Trek characters that I’ve finally finished.

I couldn’t decide if I wanted to do a blanket stitch or a straight stitch to finish off the edges so little Kirk was my experiment.  I think the straight stitch worked a lot better for this design, so that’s what I stuck with.

Here’s the finished little Scotty!  I started running out of cloth when I went to finish this one so the edges are still a little ragged, but they could be worse  and overall it turned out okay.

And I even had time to make and finish a little Spock.  He may be the cutest of all of them so far.  (Note the pointed ears).  He’s my last trekkie stitch for now, but I’d like to make a whole bridge crew of TOS and TNG over the summer.  Not sure if I want to do bookmarks or be a little more ambitious and stuff and back with felt to make little figures.  What would you do?

So I spent a lot of time trying to decide what I wanted this week’s borrowed inspiration to be.  There are so many fantastic cross-stitch artists out there it’s hard to choose. (seriously, look at Pinterest, Etsy, or Deviantart and you’ll feel very ashamed of yourself).  I’ve decided to stick with the bookmark theme this week, so our borrowed inspiration comes from one of my favorite BBC shows, Sherlock.  If you haven’t been watching this show I highly recommend you catch up an seasons 1 and 2 before 3 comes out and you’ll be obsessed.

This pattern comes from AdLeones’s Etsy shop and costs $4.50 USD.  You get the pattern as a PDF so no shipping charges, and let’s admit, it’s pretty fantastic.  I’ve got way too many patterns in my stash as it is so I’ve just added it to my favorites but if you want to buy it for yourself (and show off the finished product) here’s the link.

I’m also (kind of) on track with my reading for this year.  Only two books behind my goal and going strong.  This week I’ve got another reviewer copy to finish and The Help which I’ve been trying to finish all year.  I’m also about three weeks ahead on reviews which means plenty of updated content for you all!  And lots of new books for you to check out.
