Bullet Journal | National Stationery Week

Posted on the 26 April 2017 by Mummyb @mummyb_kw
This week marks National Stationery Week and I thought I would honor the week with something I have truly been loving - my Bullet Journal. I have always loved the idea of writing a journal, I mean, I'm a blogger. I love to document everything. Those beautiful intricately designed to-do lists, daily reflections and gratitude pages tapped into my creative side and at the time I was aching for a creative outlet that didn't involve a screen. I wanted to be able to have something where I could completely focus on something other than work and the children - something for me. My bullet journal has become my creative and therapeutic outlet.

I decided that instead of it being a tool to organize my life (although I love the idea of being able to freely design your own planner), it was going to be another aid for mindfulness. I wanted it to be a place where I could mind dump, reflect or simply just be creative. So far, it's working a treat. I love that I'm able to look back through my journal and see reminders of things I've done or what I'm grateful for - wonderful if you're having a "down" day and you need to rejig that positive mindset.

So how do you create one?

Traditionally you should look for a notebook with dotted paper. I had my eye on a beautiful one, but it cost almost £20. I decided to pick up a squared notebook from Paperchase for a fraction of the price. At the time, I didn't want to invest in case it was something else I did for a week and then forgot about, but once this journal is filled, I will be making that purchase.
You also don't need 100's of different pens, just ones you know you love using. I love using a calligraphy pen and ordinary felt tips - though those watercolour pens have my heart at the moment. So pretty.
If you're are stuck for idea's there are literally thousands of ideas on Pinterest that will help get your creative juices flowing (wow, I hate that phrase.). I'm very fond of my year in pixels page and my habit tracker - I love a colourful page and it's a really simple way of keeping track.

The thing to remember is that your bullet journal is just that, yours. Not for Pinterest or Instagram. Don't worry if your handwriting is rubbish (mine certainly is) or if it's a little chaotic. I really loved reading this article and it has helped me create some really useful pages in my journal and reminded me that my journal is a tool just for me (even if I am sharing a few pages with you now).
I'm contemplating doing a monthly blog post dedicated to Bullet Journals, perhaps focusing on the benefits and page ideas. If this is something you would like to see then let me know. I would also love to hear if you bullet journal too, perhaps you would like to guest post?
Enjoy the simplicity of pen and paper this week.
