…Burn Off

Posted on the 26 June 2012 by Zer @the2women

Summer is officially here. And with it comes the heat, longer days and, yes, sunscreen.

With more awareness than ever about the importance of proper skin protection, you would think the unintentional sunburn (sunbathers, you have your own issues) would be a thing of the past.

The backwards thinking of many US schools and states was recently brought to light when two girls in Washington state suffered severe sunburns during their school’s field day; to which, they were not allowed to bring sunscreen.

I’ll give you a chance to shudder as you think back on your own personal nightmare that was field day (did anyone enjoy it?).

Now, if you’ve read or witnessed my sunscreen soliloquys before then you know how much this outrages me, and if you haven’t, well, brace yourself.

It turns out that this a nationwide trend. In fact, California, is the only state which allows sunscreen in schools without a doctors note. And apparently the only state with common sense.

True, plenty of children have allergies to different chemicals in sunscreen. But all kids will have permanent damage done to their skin if left out in the sun all day without protection.

Where is the adult supervision? Or more importantly, who doesn’t allow sunscreen at field day?

I could go on, but I won’t. I’ll save some for a later sunscreen blog. Until then, please, please, please use your sunscreen.
