Thirty-one Arizona schools across six counties received this funding by the program which intends boost well-being and to reduce alcohol and drug abuse.

The Governor’s press release declared that, “The dollars provided during the High School Health and Wellness application enables school administrators to participate in proactive measures to stop alcohol and drug abuse and boost the well-being of Arizona’s youth.”
It went on to say: Many evidence-based prevention programs happening in schools have been shown to develop student teacher relationships and more positive school climates thereby increasing school attendance and performance. The Arizona High School Health and Wellness Program was built on the knowledge the school attachment and student involvement in positive school activities, such as chemical abuse prevention plans, help safeguard children against risky behavior and reduce using tobacco, alcohol and other medications.

Debbi C. Burdick, Superintendent of the Cave Creek Unified School District stated, “We are extremely eager to have become an awardee of the award to further extend our prevention plans in Cactus Shadows High School and encourage our students against substance abuse and risky behaviors. The AZ High School Health and Wellness Program will encourage engagement and positive faculty interactions between students and staff, as well as peer to peer relationships. We are grateful to the Army’s Office for supporting youth prevention programming in AZ and want to thank Ms. Gina Durbin because of her ongoing efforts to do exactly the same.”
