One of the best things about California is discovering those Gems that are hidden away, or others just don’t talk about as much. They’re everywhere, but for me, some of the best, lie right on the Central California Coast.
Cayucos.
Got a case of wanderlust? You need the Cayucos cure! Visit as often as necessary to keep it at bay. #cayucos #wanderlust

This beauty of a beach town encompasses everything; The idyllic town of Cayucos is located half way between Los Angeles and San Francisco along California’s beautiful Central Coast. The term “Cayucos” comes from the Chumash Native American word for “canoe.” Cayucos is a throw back to the original, laid-back California beach towns with its relaxed vibe and Western influences. Time still moves a little slower in Cayucos.
It is one of those spots that welcome relaxation, allowing you to leave the city life behind you, and welcome the beach all around you. From its small town charm comes lots of enjoyment. A beach that isn’t too crowded, but still feels like you’re getting away.
Annual festivals throughout the year include:
Stewardship Travel Month: (February 1-28): Every February is Stewardship Travel Month, and Cayucos offers a variety of opportunities for people to get involved through many Stewardship programs. A complete list can be found here.
Mermaid March (March 1-31): Local Businesses will be displaying local Mermaid Art Installations throughout Cayucos during the month of March.
Sea Glass Festival (March 14-15): See the natural beauty of Sea Glass at this annual event that continues to grow throughout the years. Sea glass enthusiasts and craftspeople from around the world will converge in this quaint beach town every March to sell and showcase their sea glass creations, jewelry, keepsakes and treasures.
4th of July Celebration: (July 4th)

Enjoy Independence Day with your family Cayucos style! The streets of this charming beach town come alive with a hometown parade while sand sculptures cover the beach as a result of the annual sand sculpture competition, perfect for all ages! The grand finale comes with a spectacular show of fireworks, which are shot off the famous Cayucos pier.
For me, it’s a must visit list in 2015. Have you been or will you be heading there this year?
