Camp Chants Cha-Cha-Cha

Posted on the 10 June 2014 by Juliezaz1 @juliezaz1

Happy Top 10 Tuesday everyone!  Today’s blog is a repost from a year ago.  My daughter just left for summer camp yesterday, and I am imagining her there this morning standing at the morning meeting place screaming her head off to the silly camp chants and crazy dancing.  It is such a fun and happy part of camp, so I decided I would share this blog with all of you again today and get you all in the spirit for overnight summer camp.  Enjoy!

Here’s the blog:

We are smack dab in the middle of summer camp season, and with each of the camps I’ve attended recently, silly camp chants are a big part of the day.  Kids love them, and they are an excellent way to boost camp spirit and energy.  Below, I’ve listed a couple of my favorites.  Camp chants are also great for emphasizing beat and rhythm.  Chants lend themselves to this musical concept, so let’s take it one step further today with our Top 10 Tuesday musical activity and add unpitched rhythmic instruments to the chants.  From our Top 10 Tuesday list of instruments (click HERE for the complete list), the instruments below are good unpitched instruments to use.

With each chant, have your child try using an unpitched rhythm instrument as they recite the chant.  If they are non-readers, you recite the chant for them as your child keeps the beat with an instrument.  This will be a goofy activity, but that’s what camp chants are all about.  Have fun with it!

Princess Pat

*Repeat Each Line*

The princess Pat
Lived in a tree
And she sailed across
The seven seas
And she sailed across
The seven seas
And she sailed across
The channel too.
And she brought with her:
A ricka bamboo

A ricka bamboo
Now what is that?
It´s something made
By the princess Pat
It´s red and gold
And purple too
That´s why it´s called:
A ricka bamboo

Now the Captain Jack
Had a mighty fine crew
and they sailed across
the channel too
His ship did sink
And so will you
If you don´t take
A ricka bamboo
A ricka bamboo
Now what is that?
It ´s something made
By the princess Pat
It´s red and gold
And purple too
That´s why it´s called:
A ricka bamboo

Hermie the Worm
Sitting on a fencepost chewing my bubblegum
*smack smack smack* (of gum)
When along came Hermie the worm
And he was this big (hands about a foot apart)
I said, “Hermie, what happened?”
“I ate my breakfast.”

Sitting on a fencepost chewing my bubblegum
*smack smack smack* (of gum)
When along came Hermie the worm
And he was this big (hands farther apart)
I said, “Hermie, what happened?”
“I ate my lunch.”

Sitting on a fencepost chewing my bubblegum
*smack smack smack* (of gum)
When along came Hermie the worm
And he was this big (hands farther apart)
I said, “Hermie, what happened?”
“I ate my dinner.”

Sitting on a fencepost chewing my bubblegum
*smack smack smack* (of gum)
When along came Hermie the worm
And he was this big (hands farther apart)
I said, “Hermie, what happened?”
“I ate my dessert.”

Sitting on a fencepost chewing my bubblegum
*smack smack smack* (of gum)
When along came Hermie the worm
And he was this big (thumb and first finger close together)
I said, “Hermie, what happened?”
“I burped.”
