My personal favourite (due to a combination of Don DeLillo and Robert Pattinson) of this year’s Festival de Cannes is Cosmopolis. I’ve already dedicated a number of posts on this upcoming movie, but I’m still putting it in my Cannes list.
Eric Packer (Pattinson) wants a haircut and he wants itnow. No matter the president is in town and the whole of Manhattan is congested. The larger part of the story (and the movie) takes place inside a wide limosine harbouring the most technically advanced equipment. Being a multi-billion dollar asset manager he takes an enormous risk betting against the rise of the yen. He also has to live with a prostate that is asymmetrical, a wife that does not want to have sex with him and lots of rats. Oh, and did I mention the fact he thinks he’s going to be assassinated? The book is crazy, I expect the film to be crazy.
