I think its fair to say that for most mothers - certain things change when it comes to fashion choices once you have children, and for me one of the biggest changes has been my desire for comfort over style.
I used to be the kind of woman who would wear high heels all day long even though my feet throbbed in agony - because I thought they looked better than flats. I was kind of person who always went out without a coat even in pouring rain, because a coat would spoil the look of my outfit.
And one thing I was always insistent on was attractive underwear - always pretty, always matching, always push up bras. I wasn't even doing it to appeal to anybody else, it was just something that made ME feel better and more confident somehow. As though if my knickers matched my bra I could take on the world! Strange...I know!
As soon as I became a mother, this was one of the first things to go out of the window! Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that all mums automatically lose their sense of self or their interest in looking nice once they have children - that's not the case at all and I do still enjoy buying clothes, keeping up with fashion and looking nice but what has changed is that now I can appreciate the importance of comfort.
When you're running around after 3 children all day, you NEED to be comfortable!
When I was breastfeeding my 3rd son (after bottle feeding the first two) I discovered the joy of nursing bras. I know a lot of people think them ugly and perfunctory things but personally, I found them to be a revelation in comfort!
Perhaps its because as a large-chested woman I struggle more than most with underwires digging in and cleavage spilling out of bras when I don't want it to - but nursing bras seemed to bring a whole new world of gentle support that I'd never experienced before.
One thing I did always struggle with though, was finding them to fit well. As a EE cup, I always found myself spilling out of the sides too much.
A little while ago, I was given the chance to try out the Carriwell Seamless Gelwire Nursing bra - and after checking the sizing chart I was concerned that perhaps I'd have the same issue.
But to my surprise, when the XL size arrived - it was ideal!
