Easter is a little over a week away and one of my favorite traditions is dying eggs. Time to get out those eggs and have a blast with them.

1) White Eggs vs. Brown Eggs
When dying eggs you may think to pick up those white eggs, but the secret is to dye brown eggs such as from The Happy Egg Co. The pigments in the brown shell help produce more jewel-like tones. Because the Happy Egg Co. eggs are thicker they may need longer time to dye, and a longer soak in vinegar rinse prior to dying.
2) Go Natural
Colorful foods like carrots, blueberries, and coffee can be boiled in water to make an all natural dye.
3) Make Your Masterpiece Last
Turn one time use eggs into a decoration that can be used from year to year by “blowing” them instead of hard-boiling. To empty a raw egg begin by using the tip of a sharp utility knife to pierce both ends of the egg, turn the knife in one of the holes to widen it slightly. Then, poke a straightened paper clip through the larger hole to pierce and “stir” the yolk. Hold the egg, larger hole down, over a bowl, and then blow the contents out with a rubber ear syringe.
