Celebrating 60 Whole Years in Exactly 36 Hours

Posted on the 29 May 2012 by Marensmorsels @marentweets

Hey guys. I’m finally back at home after our weekend away. Max’s grandparents were celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary this weekend so we packed up our bags and hit the road for Benicia. We’re not ones to say no to a party.

We left at 8:30am. I was pretty nervous because I really wanted to keep up all my clean eating throughout the weekend and I knew that would be pretty tough. Max’s family makes some pretty delicious food… but I went with the mentality of little splurges are A-okay! It really worked. I felt pretty great all weekend and I got to enjoy just about everything.

I took a little bowl of raspberries and blueberries with me in the car for a quick breakfast.

Unfortunately we forgot to get a card for Walt and Virginia so we stopped at Target to pick one up. We both got a little coffee pick-me-up at the in-store Starbucks. I had a tall soy latte with a stevia packet added.

I love how soymilk is so filling!

The party wasn’t ‘til 2pm and we had to help set up the tables & chairs all through normal lunch time. So I was pretty happy about my soy latte. :mrgreen.

I also enjoyed a handful of mixed nuts at about noon.

After helping set up, Max and I were in serious need of a snack. We were cranky and very unpleasant to be around.

We walked down main street in Benicia and found a little café. I had a berry smoothie made with mixed berries, 1/2 the normal serving of raspberry sorbet, and apple juice while max had a turkey and egg breakfast sandwich (at 1:30pm… )

Mimosa! For lunch I had a little plate of appetizers. Dolmas, fruit, toast with olive tapenade and some spicy chicken.  I had about 5 more dolmas and 3 more toasts throughout the party.

And it wouldn’t have been a party without a little beer…

Dinner that night was left overs.

I splurged on a few of these sugar-butter cookies after dinner… and by a few I mean 7

Monday

Max, Max’s sister Susanna and I all woke up bright and early (8am) and did a little 1 mile run down the hill to Starbucks. Then we walked 1 mile back up the hill to his aunt and uncle’s house. Such a fun little workout, huh?

11

Max is “streaking” which is where you run at least 1 mile every day.

The hills were pretty steep. Our walking 1 mile turned out to be more of a challenge than our running mile. :-D

I had a Grande Pike’s Place with soymilk.

We had a BIG brunch planned for 10am to celebrate a bunch of birthdays and graduations from college.

We didn’t end up eating until 11. Max and I were h-u-n-g-r-y!

I tried my best to keep to my low-sugar clean eating by skipping a few of the pastries. But I let myself have a heaping serving of breakfast potatoes. :)

I forgot to take a picture… but I had breakfast potatoes with salsa, scrambled eggs, and fruit salad.

7

To celebrate all the birthdays and graduations we had homemade chocolate ganache cupcakes.

Max and I split one. It was super duper tasty!!!

We hit the road back home at about 1am. By 3 we were ready for a pretty filling snack… so we stopped at good ole Chipotle!

I wanted to keep it pretty light since dinner time is right around the corner from 3pm so I had the veggie bowl with no rice but I had black beans, fajita veggies, hot salsa, guacamole and lettuce. Totally filling!

We had to stop for 1 more errand on the way home. But to help us pass the time we split this Godiva dark chocolate bar. It made my intestines a little jumpy but I’d life if I said it wasn’t worth it…

Now were home and this is our plan for tonight…

  • write this blog post
  • watch the premier of Hattfields & McCoys on the History Channel
  • Make chicken salad with veggies for dinner (recipe coming later tonight or tomorrow morning)
  • watch the Bachelorette
