Chanel Does Dallas

This whole idea of a slightly grumpy geriatric German leading his fashion darlings into larger than life Texas is so giddy to me,  its nothing short of genius. Chanel (and the slightly grumpy German being Karl Lagerfeld) brought the annual Métiers d’Art show to Dallas last week. French couture and The Lone Star State are not usually uttered in the same sentence, unless you know your fashion history. In the late 50s Coco was past it according to the French, but it was the Americans (and especially department store giant Neiman Marcus) who embraced her collection and gave her a “second act” so to speak. Lagerfeld brought the show to Dallas to honor these strange bedfellows and everything about the show was bigger and better just like Texas itself. ”I love Dallas. I love Texans. They are the nicest of people,” Lagerfeld told Dallas News. “Texas is wild, but I made it more romantic.” I can vouch for that, I have been to Dallas, and in addition to my 80s Dallas TV-series dreams, I fell in love with the people and the city. If you haven’t been, go! They’ll show you some real Southern hospitality in Texas.

Denim, Native American influences, cowboy boots and Western hats are not what comes to mind when you hear the words Coco Chanel but the whole collection is so fabulously Chanelized, you would’ve thought they have been donning fringes and prairie dresses in Parisian salons for years.
