It’s been a wild week for Apple fans. From last week’s official debut of the iPhone 7 and AirPods to this week’s release of iOS 10 and tomorrow’s iPhone 7 release, there’s been plenty to celebrate and talk about.

Of course, with change sometimes you have to say goodbye. This round of change comes with a not unexpected, but still significant casualty—the headphone jack.

Yes, with the announcement of Apple’s brand new Bluetooth AirPods came the death knell for the wired headphones. While Apple doesn’t by any means control the fate of the headphone jack, it’s disappearance from the latest iPhone doesn’t bode well for its survival. Also, let’s face it, Apple is usually the leader of the pack when it comes to tech changes.

The good news is, this everyday piece of tech had a nice long run. Invented in the 1950’s by today’s tech standards they’ve been around for forever. Still, it will be missed.
