For most of my life, I have had long hair.
I was blessed with hair that I could grow long without it looking stringy, gross or scraggly and I loved that fact. On top of that, I was...traumatized...by short hair as a child.
See, I had a rather mischievous older sister, but she was my older sister and so, of course, she knew best. So, when we had an end-of-year sleepover after I finished preschool and she finished first grade, and she told me to cut my bangs and also to cut my hair (which was in a ponytail), I thought it was a brilliant idea.
((cue the simultaneous facepalms))
And so, I cut my hair and my bangs and the result was not...well, very pretty. And that one situation was enough to prevent me from cutting my hair any more than was necessary for a very long time. I came close to sobbing almost any time my mom had to just trim my hair (I may have been a tad overdramatic).
But a few years back, I decided to be brave and chopped my hair off. I chopped 10 inches off and donated it to Locks of Love.
Since then, I've been growing my hair out again and I'd been debating whether or not I would donate it again or if I would just cut a few inches off and get it more styled and layered.
Well, when I got cast in Proposals and we started talking costumes and hair, I realized that most of the styles from the 1950s were shorter -- much shorter than my general length. So, when the hair stylist came in to talk to us about what we were going to do, I threw out the idea and, well...I think you get the picture.
Here's the before:
And here's the after:
So what do you all think? I've actually had the cut for about a week and a half, but I was waiting until I saw my big sister before I posted anything online. She's always telling me that I should be more adventurous with my hair, so I wanted to surprise her...little does she know I'm not adventurous because of her urging to cut it when I was little!
Also, anybody have any short hair styling tips? I'm figuring out some things that I can do with it, but I don't have my usual assortment of braids, buns, and updos that I can do because of the length and wearing it straight gets boring after a while.
Happy Monday!
