Happy Top 10 Tuesday, music friends. ,

I have such a fun couple of family games for your holidays season today!  Christmas is a day when you spend a lot of time at home, so what a better time than to bond over some good family game playing.  And why not make it musical, too?

Once you have all of the slips of paper in a container, take turns choosing. Pictionary is a drawing game, so you will need big pads of papers, markers or chalkboard/eraser to play.  Rather than write the name of the song, try drawing pictures that best express the song title or what the song is about.  Whoever successfully guesses the most song titles is the winners.  Play as many rounds as you chose to!

Christmas Name That Tune

For this game, you will either need a keyboard, piano or xylophone.  Xylophones, also called glockenspiels, are on my Top 10 list of instruments under $40 that will help promote music education in the home.  (Click HERE to see the complete list.)

Here is a picture of a xylophone or glockenspiel

You can click HERE to view it on Amazon.com for purchase.

To “name that tune”, have your child pick a Christmas song and try to play the xylophone until they figure out the first few notes of the melody.  See how many notes they need to figure out until you can “name that tune.”  Keep a tally of how many notes it takes to figure out the song in.  Play as many rounds of the game going back and forth between players.  The player with the lowest number tallied at the end of the game, wins!
