My inner Martha Stewart has been going crazy ever since I laid eyes on these:
They come in three colors (different heights) at Target.Unfortunately, they cost about $35 to get all three.
So yesterday I decided I would find a way to make my own. We have a Michael's, Joann's, and Hobby Lobby within 5 minutes of us, allowing me to use coupons at each and spread out the purchases.
Here is what I found.
The only other thing you need is a glue gun.
For trees that you use yarn for, you have to glue the yarn to the bottom of the tree and wrap like this:
See!
Continue wrapping the yarn around the tree until you get to the bottom. I then glued the last two rotations at the bottom to secure it and then tucked and glued the end of yarn to the bottom of the tree.
When wrapping with thicker material (like the jute), I suggest just gluing the end to the top of the tree point and gluing it as you wrap it around in a spiral to cover the top. Then just glue the first rotation as you go down the tree and continue on to the bottom.
Jute is much thicker, so doing the original wrapping method to cover the top would leave your tree lumpy.
This is how they turned out:
I LOVE them! So much so I decided to take a few more random pictures of them, in my pajamas, on the porch. My new neighbors probably think I'm weird....
This was such an easy and inexpensive way to get the Christmas decor I wanted. I ended up only spending a little over $20 (The other half of the yarn is for another project).
I also loved that you can make these to match your home! If you don't want the typical green, red and white that the Target ones come in, do what I did and choose other colors (:
