City-bound

Julie left for Oklahoma City this morning. Who's Julie? Why is this significant? Well, Julie is K's older sister who had been renting out the bedroom in my Manhattan apartment this past month. She went to Syracuse, is a few years older, now in medical school, and had a rotation at Cornell Hospital. Last weekend I met her and one of my roommates, Catherine, for brunch at Sojourn. It's a shame we weren't able to do so earlier, but with the particular craziness that was this month, I just couldn't. It was so nice to catch up with them both. Julie could've found a sublet from another medical student, but I wanted to offer her my room for convenience (the hospital is a lovely 15-block walk from my apartment) and for the chance to "get away from it all." We made the official arrangement in August; I only realize how much of a blessing it was now. I don't know if I could've survived the particular craziness that was this month with as much optimistic realism if I hadn't been temporarily staying with my parents. But I was, and I did. And now, I'm more ready than ever to get back to my apartment and my life in the city. Let the brunches begin again.
