Cloud 9

I am thrilled. Good news is always uplifting - but have you ever noticed how the success of our friends excites us so much more than our own? At least for me, it is like that. A lot like anticipation - which I always find, is so much more exciting than the actual event.
Even though I spent most of my time indoors recovering (unless you count dentists' visits, grocery-shopping and trips to my terrace as outings) I was one heck of a lucky person - and all because of my friends. Every day, I received good news, news I had been praying for. Just consider these:
My dear friend Terri Sonoda is launching her first book and has the cover ready. It is stunning. She's a writer to watch for. Supremely talented with a unique brand of humor that captures your heart. Visit her blog Terri's Little Corner. You'll love it. And do watch out for her book. There will be a paperback version as well as a digital version. Can't wait to show off a copy on my bookshelf!

My dear friend Uma's birthday was on June 9. She lives close by. I remember the first time we met - back in 1999 - it was like our souls met. We've been best friends from that instant - if there's such a thing. We've laughed a lot, watched our kids grow over the years, sympathized over our woes and wonderful moments. Her kids are close to my heart. I revel in their joys and cry with them when they're upset. I love to go shopping with them. Uma brings Vidur a cake the day before he gets his exam results, and has promised to do so for as long as he studies in India. Vidur worships her. We pay each others' property taxes. We're each others' go-to's in any kind of crazy situation. Oh yes, she does look like a cute goddess always beautifully dressed in the traditional way. I am thrilled that one of her daughters will soon be leaving India to continue her education. Both girls are brilliant. Love that family. We have marathon phone calls. What can I say? My heart overfloweth as my senses brim over with laughter each time I think of her.
My dear Vishnu Vardhan,  just added another feather to his tennis cap by claiming the men's singles title in the Mysore ITF Open championship.

I met Vishnu when he was an 8 months old  baby, that is 1987 and...he's 24 now. We're close friends with his family - and his Mom is the one person in my life who never forgets an occasion - she's the first to wish me on my birthday. Vishnu is currently Top Seed Tennis Player. Davis Cupper. Nationally ranked at No.2. Can you believe I still have audio tapes of his babytalk and loads of photos from his childhood? I used to think, back then, if I ever had a kid, he should be like him. Oh, I could go on and on about him. But suffice it to say that each time I see news about him, my heart swells with pride. We had the pleasure of spending a day with Vishnu and his family in Dec 2011, when we visited Hyderabad. Always amazing for me to think that the baby I carried around with me everywhere I went outside of office hours - now looks like this:

My favorite guys  Vishnu and Vidur

What a happy sense of well-being. Are you surprised I am on Cloud 9?
Here are some of the clouds that kept me company in the evenings last week. I love the patterns and enjoy gazing at them. I am grateful I could spend time there with my family, joking, laughing and coming back home, happy.

I swear I heard God's voice at that moment!
Well, God's in his heaven. And all is right with the world. See the flame of the forest? There's a huge sea of them from where I looked.
