Colour Your Life

Posted on the 15 May 2013 by Meltingmoments

A few days ago while out on our morning run, we passed a garden full of beautiful flowers. They were so vibrant and colourful that they made me smile. I felt myself relaxing and taking a deep breath in. It jogged my memory of a book I had once read on color therapy. I remember thinking that it made so much sense. I definitely think that looking at certain colours can alter your mood.

Colour has the ability to affect our mind, body and spirit as well as our emotions. Different colours can excite, inspire, energise, calm and bring about a feeling of harmony and balance.

Lots of us use colours to describe the way we feel. I am sure you have heard the expressions ‘green with envy’ or ‘I am feeling blue’.

Colour is all around us. It surrounds us everyday and we are affected by it without even realising it.

Did you know that red is stimulating? It can quicken heart rate, increase blood circulation and prompt the release of adrenalin. On the emotional side of things, red can cause us to become argumentative and aggressive. Red is also known as a color of passion.

Orange is the color of joy and happiness. Good for those who are feeling tired and down and great for depression.

Yellow beams of warmth and joy. It’s the color of the sun. Think about how great you feel when you are basking in the sunlight.

For a sense of balance, surround yourself with green. It is the color of life. Think of nature and the green of the new leaves of Spring. Green is one of my favorite colours. It always makes me think of the great outdoors and relaxes me.

Blue is the color of inspiration, tranquility and peace. It is known as a great color for meditation and is often used in places of healing.

White is another favorite color of mine. It is associated with purity, innocence, cleanliness and spirituality.

Black is seen as a negative color. Associated with evil and darkness. Or for many women it in known as a slimming color and a go to when you’re feeling frumpy.
