Commenting On My Blog

{via}

I've been contemplating this for awhile. Some of you will love this and some of you I will never hear from again...

This morning I went through the steps to install Disqus on my blog.
If you don't know what Disqus is, it's a third party commenting system. I have posted quite a few times on my blog, begging for other bloggers to stop being "noreply-comment" bloggers...but it has actually gotten WORSE over the past few months. Something about Google+ profiles has pushed bloggers who I know don't realize it, into the "noreply-comment" category. They keep trying to switch their settings, but every time I get a comment from them, the only reason I can respond is because I personally know their email address.

I wrote a post this past week that got over 100 comments. Of those 100+ comments, nearly half were "noreply-comment" posts. That's when I made the decision to add Disqus. I pride myself on responding to my reader's comments. If you leave me something heartfelt, a question, or something more than "great post!", I respond to you.

But if you give me no way to respond, I can't do anything about it. I clicked on tons of girls comments and all it did was take me to their Google+ page. No email address. No blog URL. So a huge number of you probably think I am ignoring you. Well, I'm not, I just can't find a way to write back.

With the baby coming I know I will have even less time to respond to emails and comments. I want to interact with you guys, but I don't have time to search around for how I can possibly get back to you. Most of all, I never want to get accused of not getting back to anyone.

Disqus may seem like a pain in your butt - in reality, once you enter your info once, it remembers you and you shouldn't have to keep doing it over again. On top of that, you can tweet me straight from a comment and you can even just use Facebook or Twitter to sign in to leave a comment. I have friends who have used Disqus for awhile and any time I comment, it recognizes me and it's no different than using the Blogger system.

I realize this may deter some of you from commenting. I read somewhere that 50% of people won't comment if they have to do extra work. I really hope that isn't true, but when I weighed it against getting hundreds of comments a week I can't respond to, I decided this was the best choice. If any of you are having issues with the same types of things I talked about above, you may want to consider Disqus or another service as well.
