The thing with drills is you tend to dread them before they come but then once you're done you usually feel good about having done it. Today's consumption drill was geared towards seeing how long each firefighter lasts on one air bottle while working. Several stations were set up (sledgehammer hitting tire, ladder climb, tower climb, dummy drag, hose roll carry, charged line pull) and you go from station to station until every last breath was taken out of the air tank. I gotta admit, about 20-25 minutes into it you're looking at the gauge on your bottle thinking "for the love of god run out already" but all in all it was a good drill. Tiring, but good. The rest of the day was chill. Changed out of a reserve and back to our frontline engine, saved a few lives, popped a guy with Versed, same old same old. And now I'm looking forward to tomorrow. A cold front is supposed to blow in tonight. Man I hope we get some sleep. Cuz tomorrow I'll have my fire pit burning and a Guinness in hand. 50's and 60's during the day and 40's at night. I think I'll be conducting my own consumption drill. Except mine involves Guinness. Sounds like a plan.
