She: “Some of her dishes are really good. Especially the
ones that go well with Chapathis”
Me: Hmmm… That’s exactly what I want!
She: Her Egg Curry is mouth watering. Chicken and Fish curry
is amazing. I am sure you will like them.
Me: Hmm…
She: To top it all, she cleans up really well. When I get
back home, the kitchen is absolutely clean.
Me: Oh, nice!
She: The best part is I can trust her with my keys. She is
not the stealing kind.
Me: (with a raised eyebrow): Really?
She: Yes, she is will be perfect for you. I will call her
and you can talk to her about the rest.
Me: Errrr… OK.
I talk to her and fix up a time for her start cooking at my
home. She shows up on time, I ask her to make egg curry, lady finger sabzi and
rice. She does so.
After an hour and a half, she finishes. Tells me that she
needs more money because its taking her more than an hour to do the cooking and
cleaning. I agree. If she is as good as my friend said she is, I am sure she
will be worth it!
I enter the kitchen. The floor is clean (not mopped). The
slab is sticky. The oven is dirty. The dishes she washed, I had to rewash!
Now, I am wondering what nerve she had to demand more money
for the kind of sloppy work she did.
And the food? I haven’t tasted a more disgusting sabzi (half
cooked) or egg curry in my life. The onions were floating almost raw in the
curry. And the rice was overcooked!
I thought, maybe first day issues. I asked her to make Rasam
and Avial with Rice yesterday. Rice was perfect. Avial had no taste whatsoever.
And I almost vomited after tasting the Rasam. Dishes were still not too clean.
Today I am waiting with Chicken defrosting in my kitchen
sink. This has to be her last and final chance. I wanted a break and rest from
my work. Not added damage control work!
And the friend who suggested her, all I can say about her is, I
don’t think I like her all that much anymore.
