…crush It

This “What to Watch Wednesday,” I thought I’d join in on another Wednesday tradition of the Internet Age: #WCW.

For those who don’t speak hashtag, that stands for Woman Crush Wednesday. It’s a wonderful trend where women (and some men too) give a shout out to women they admire or look up to. To be clear, #WCW has nothing to do with looks, and those who use it as an excuse to judge women based on their appearance are horribly shallow and despicable human beings.

This WCW I’m sharing my love for the  funny ladies of Tuesday night. Dramatic and funny ladies of Tuesday and other nights of the week, your time will come.

First up, Karen Gillan as Eliza Dooley in ABC’s “Selfie.” The show may be new this season, but my admiration for Ms. Gillan goes back to the first time I saw her on Doctor Who, as the fierce (and very Scottish), Amelia Pond. Eliza is a far cry from Amelia, in many ways (and much more American), but once you get past the phone addiction and shallow, materialistic facade, she’s a strong and very independent modern, young woman…and John Cho’s pretty cool too:

Next, the obvious #WCW choice from Fox’s “New Girl”  is Zooey Deschanel as Jess, who is of course very worthy of the honor. I don’t care how tired you are of “adorkable” if you don’t love Zooey, check your pulse. I’d also like to add Jess’ best friend Cece (Hannah Simone), the former model turned bartender/student. They’re a breath of girl power in the midst of a whole lot of dudes, and more than pull their own weight:

And last, but most certainly not least, Mindy Kaling as Dr. Mindy Lahiri in Fox’s “The Mindy Project.” She’s a rom com loving ob/gyn living and working in New York City. She’s smart, she’s real, she never gives up on her dream that life will mirror every chick flick she’s ever seen, basically she’s girl power incarnate:

More than a few (2WC included) have suggested that we’re in the middle of a golden age of television, and if you’re in search of some kick-ass, funny women than that is most certainly true on Woman Crush Wednesday, and every other day of the week.
