Dad’s Old Wheelbarrow

Posted on the 29 July 2012 by Meltingmoments

I’m a bit of a sentimentalist. We had dad’s old wheelbarrow under our house. Mum said to throw it out in the council’s clean up. I couldn’t bear to. I decided to make a herb garden out of it. Hubby drilled some drainage holes in the bottom, laid a layer of blue aggregate and then soil. The fun part was picking the herbs and plants to put into it.

I planted coriander (my favorite herb), basil, lemon thyme, chives, rosemary and a selection of lettuce. Around the border I put pansies but apparently marigolds would have been better as they deter grubs. The basil hasn’t survived, nor have the chives but I use a lot of the other herbs in my cooking.

I have considered painting it red but that can wait for another day.

I think my dad would give it the thumbs up.
