Decision Time…

Do you ever make a decision and two seconds later change your mind?  I once went out to eat with a couple and the wife changed her mind so much during the entire meal that it was not a pleasurable experience.  Just when we thought she was done, she would call the waiter back over and change her order.  She did it several times.  She was asking me for advice on her business at the time.  Needless to say, she didn’t take my advice.  She actually drove potential clients away with this behavior of hers.  It was very self-destructive and unfortunately her business did not survive.

Moving on to my decision issues.  I have a hard time making what I would consider “life altering” decisions.  I once told my husband to apply for a job overseas.  He has lived everywhere, and I haven’t ever moved.  I know, I know.  Anyway, one night he made the mistake of explaining if it happened, it would happen suddenly.  The kids would be moved in the middle of their school year, etc.  We might not be able to sell the house, make that pretty sure we couldn’t and we would have to rent it out.  I panicked.  I told him not to do it.  I wasn’t ready.  So he didn’t apply.  It wasn’t all my fault.  He had waited until the last-minute and didn’t have some form at work.  Anyway, I regretted my panic.  I do want to live in Europe.  It would be a wonderful experience for my children.

I think that you have to go with your first reaction and not second guess yourself.  Once you do, you start to pick at the threads of your reasoning and it all falls apart.  I am doing that right now in my decision to go back to school.  I know what I need to do and how to make it happen.  I don’t know where I’m going to get the money necessarily, but somehow it will all work out.  Supposedly this degree will pay for itself.  Ha ha ha.  Anyway, one thing I know for sure is that I don’t ever want to look back on my choices and have regret, so go forward and see where your decision takes you.  Lastly, if you really can’t make up your mind, there is always this:

“It doesn’t matter which side of the fence you get off on sometimes. What matters most is getting off. You cannot make progress without making decisions.”  ~Jim Rohn
