Decorating Our Home For Autumn

Posted on the 02 September 2020 by Sparklesandstretchmarks @raine_fairy

I can hardly believe we're about to head in to the Autumn months, as strange as this year has been for all of us and as much as some of the days felt truly endless it also seems to have evaporated before my very eyes.
I'm not going to pretend that I'm sad to see the back of the summer though, as Autumn has always been my absolute favorite time of the year. The changing colours of the landscape, the crunch of fallen leaves underfoot and that delightful feeling of wrapping up warm outside to then come home and sip on a mug of hot chocolate before enjoying a comforting home cooked meal in front of the fireplace - candles lit, feet up, snuggled under a blanket as the fairy lights twinkle. There's just nothing quite like it - to me it is a truly magical time of year.
Because 2020 has been a difficult one in so many ways and we've all missed out on so many things we were looking forward to, I decided that I wanted to do what I can to make our Autumn and Winter months special - so for the first time, I plan to decorate our home for Autumn season.
I always decorate for Hallowe'en but we usually do it for just the one day - this year we're going all out, starting on October 1st!
I've already stocked up on fairy lights, Autumnal candles,  and - my piece de resistance - our very first Hallowe'en tree! I can't wait!

I'd really like to give our living room a bit of an autumnal makeover too - the reason we recently switched to a gray sofa from our previous green was to enable us to change our living room color scheme simply by changing our cushions, throws and accessories. We've got an Ochre theme going at the moment which is nice, but I'd like to change perhaps to mustard and rust for the Autumn season.
Of course, as private renters we don't have the luxury of being able to make permanent changes to our home - so we can't change the wallpaper or anything like that, but there are still things we can do to add our stamp.
Wall stickers are perfect for this, and we've already made use of them in our home a few times...my favorite being the personalised Rainbow we have in Noah's bedroom. It's been up for over a year now, and it's still absolutely perfect.

I think something like this wall sticker would be lovely for the living room:

I'm also keeping my eyes open for a tiered tray, as I'd love to upgrade our usual Christmas slow cooker hot chocolate station to something more permanent with a Hallowe'en twist - something like this:

I've even been buying autumnal wreaths and garlands to decorate our front door! Our neighbours will probably think we've gone a bit doolally, but I just love this sort of thing - this is the look I'm aiming for!

As you can see, I've been spending a fair bit of time on Pinterest lately!
I'm so excited to share the finished look once our Autumn themed decor is up in October - I'm adding bits to our collection all the time so who knows what it will look like when its all finished.
Do you decorate for the seasons or are you planning on doing anything differently this year? I'd love to hear about your plans!
