Diaper Duty

Posted on the 28 January 2011 by Blairbarnes

I work at a casual/upscale restaurant in an affluent area where the tables are banquette style, relatively close together. Today, right in the middle of our lunch rush I was serving a young mother with her baby and her friend. Right before I brought out their food I casually walked by to make sure they had everything they needed ketchup, refills…etc. As I approached I witnessed the mother lift her baby on to the table and proceed to change it’s diaper right in the middle of the dining room on the table she and her friend were about to eat on. The tables around her began to stare disapprovingly and I was at an utter loss. As I said before, we are an casual/upscale fusion in an affluent area, we have ample changing table facilities in both men’s and women’s restrooms. After she finished changing her baby’s diaper one would think she would at least get up to throw the diaper away, but no she placed the diaper on the edge of the table for me to clear away. Needless to say, I left the diaper there because I do not feel it is my responsibility to clean up her child’s excrement while I am also handling other people food and beverages. Gross!!!
