दिल-ए-नादां तुझे हुआ क्या है? आखिर इस दर्द की दवा क्या है?
Oh! Innocent heart what has happened to you?
what is the cure of this pain?
हम हैं मुश्ताक और वो बेज़ार, या इलाही यह माजरा क्या है?
I am eager and she unaware,
Oh God! What is happening here?
मै भी मुहँ में ज़बान रखता हूँ, काश पूछो की मुद्दा क्या है?
I too have a tongue in my mouth,
and can tell what is the matter? If asked.
जब की तुझ बिन नहीं कोई मौजूद, फिर ये हंगामा-ए-ख़ुदा क्या है?
If you are the only one present,
than why there is a fuss about God?
ये परी-चेहरा लोग कैसे हैं? गमज़ा-ओ-इशवा-ओ-अदा क्या है?
What these beautiful faces are?
What is all these side glances,airs and coquetry?
शिकन-ए-ज़ुल्फ़-ए-अम्बरी क्यूँ है? निगाह-ए-चश्म-ए-सुरमा सा क्या है? Why these fragrant tresses of hair?
Why these eyes with black liners(surma)?
सब्ज़ा-ओ-गुल कहाँ से आए हैं? अब्र क्या चीज़ है, हवा क्या है?
From where does these plants and flowers come?
What are clouds?What is air?(means who created them)
हमको उनसे वफ़ा की है उम्मीद, जो नहीं जानते वफ़ा क्या है?
I hopes for faith from her,
who don't even know what is faithfulness?
हाँ भला कर तेरा भला होगा। और दरवेश की सदा क्या है?
Do good as it brings good.
What else does a friar demands?
जान तुम पर निसार करता हूँ, मै नहीं जानता दुआ क्या है?
I bestow my life on you,
What else is prayer,I don't know?
मैंने माना की कुछ नहीं ग़ालिब, मुफ़्त हाथ आए तो बुरा क्या है?
Ghalib admits that he is nothing,
