DIY Coconut Oil Hair Mask…

Coconut oil

So this morning I found myself home alone…

Sweet…the perfect time to try my long awaited Coconut oil hair mask. It’s just one of those things your man should not see, right?

Right.

So this morning while Bruce and my oldest son took a road trip to Cumberland, I grabbed the opportunity. I am blogging while I wait for it to work.

This is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to make your hair beautiful. Coconut oil is available in most health-food stores and many grocery stores. You don’t need a lot and it’s totally natural. Yay!!

I have been coloring the hell out of my hair in the last three months, I can’t decide what I like, so I have now reverted back to streaks and eventually blonde…My hair is not amused, so I am hoping this is going to make up for the abuse a little bit.

Here is all you have to do:

Warm about 4 tbsp coconut oil for about 20 seconds in the microwave…it will melt naturally in your hands as well, I just have so much hair, having it liquefied makes it easier to get through my hair.

Once your hair is covered like this…

Put a plastic bag on your hair, or a shower cap if you have one. I will not be posting pictures of the Save-On-Foods shopping bag on my hair…no one needs to see that. Ever.

Hence me doing this when I am home alone.

Leave it in your hair as long as you can. I am going to leave it for about an hour, because that is as much time as I have today.

When your time is up, jump in the shower and use a little bit of shampoo on your coconut oiled hair before rinsing it…get it good and lathered up and then rinse…repeat this again to get the oil completely out and condition as usual.

Voila… soft shiny hair.

Do this once a month for the best results!!

Next time I am going to step it up a bit and try this recipe:

  • 2-4 tbsp. coconut oil (depending how much hair you have)
  • 2 tbsp. honey
  • 1 large egg

Mix them together and leave on for at least an hour, if you try it before I do, let me know how it turns out :)

Happy Friday everyone!
