Do Men Really Gossip More Than Women?

Posted on the 22 July 2012 by Tempestra @tempestra1

According to some poll, they do!  I can’t believe it for a second, personally.

Do men really gossip more than women?I am constantly astounded by the conversations between my wife and daughter – which celebrity is wearing what, who is dating who.  I mean, what does it really matter?  As soon as this kind of chit-chat starts up, I tune out and usually bury my head in the crossword.

However, I was reading in one of those freebie magazines that men spend an average 76 minutes a day gossiping with their friends or work colleagues, compared to just 52 minutes for women.  Really?  76 minutes a day?  The mind boggles.  And more worrying still, apparently 31% of men prefer gossiping with their workmates to having sex.  Well all I can say is, those are probably guys who aren’t having much luck with women!

Favourite topics for men include the antics of drunken friends, old school friends, and the most attractive girl at work.  Women, on the other hand, prefer to talk about other women, relationships, celebrities and soaps (OK, so this part of the story, I get!).

Maybe it’s just my line of work.  I’m a paramedic, so gossip is really the last thing we think about on the job.  But then again, I go to the pub for a good time with mates and do we gossip?  No!  We talk about the usual blokey stuff – football, cars, family.

I’m sure I’m not alone in finding this story a little….odd?

Anyway, I thought I’d share the top ten topics.  Does any of this strike a chord?
