Do You Have an Emergency Plan in Place?

Posted on the 24 January 2012 by Whatsgoingoninleeannesmind @Mommalynyrd
Today's world is completely unpredictable.
From Fires to Hurricanes, Nuclear Meltdown threats and power outages.
We never know when the next tragic event might happen!
So why not take the time now to prepare for the unexpected.
I am not saying we need to have an in home grocery store, even though this wouldn't be a bad idea.
Or that we should build underground safe havens, even though I want one.
I am talking about setting up an emergency plan for you and your family.
For example:
A fire breaks out in the kitchen of your home, does your family know how to evacuate the home? Do you have a designated spot in your neighborhood to meet up with your family? Or even To-Go bags for each family member in a central location to grab and run?
These things seem so simple and could save you a lot of heartache if this event ever occurs.
Here is another example:
You and your family are in complete different locations when an emergency broadcast comes across the radio to immediately evacuate the area. There is no way to get back to your house, and no way to get in touch with your family. How do you know they will be ok? How would you know you will meet up with them again?
Every family member should have an emergency route and contact sheet in his or her vehicle. With phone numbers, and an address to an out of town and or state location to meet up. This should include step by step directions from the most central location. (if GPS's are still working it would be a great idea to have one in each vehicle with the address saved as well)
Every member will know where to go and how to get there, so that safely you can meet up again.
It's also a great idea to have an emergency car kit as well.
Today, take the time to sit down with your family and draw out a plan. Print up a contact list for each member and place them in his or her vehicle, purse and or book bags.
It's never a bad thing to be prepared for an emergency. You may think " stuff like this won't happen to me " but the people it does happen to think the same way.
Be safe, prepare now.
