I have to write a really annoying blog post today. I know it might get more views then my average blog days, but please know, that is not the reason I am writing about it. Let me start with my little story:
The other night I ran into a person I haven’t seen in awhile. I would not call her a friend…more of a good acquaintance I’ve know for years. She immediately exclaimed, “Wow! You’ve lost so much weight. You look amazing! How’d you do it?” I told her about my no-carb/low sugar diet, but she did not stop there. She continued: ”Well, you look really good, but I should tell you one thing. You need to tone your face.”
Say what???? Did I just hear her right? I couldn’t believe my ears, so I asked, “What do you mean?”
“Well, when you lose weight, you lose the elasticity in your skin. You should hide those wrinkles with an astringent….you, know, like with collagen in it.”
Holy shit! Was she for real? I went along with it. ”Well, what do you think? Should I go out and get some Botox?” ”Naaaah,” she said, “I wouldn’t go that far. Just go out and get some collagen.” ”Okay, thank you. I’ll do that,” I responded in my usual upbeat manner.
So that’s the little story. Now mind you, there were kids around, so telling her to go F#$% herself really wasn’t an option. Here’s what I need to say on the topic though.
Where in world would someone come off to even dare utter such unkind words? I actually think this woman thought she was being kind to me, by telling me her version of the truth. I know I’m not perfect, but I also know that I’m not a wrinkly old shriv. Am I self conscious…yes I am,of course. One thing I know for sure though is that even if I had the worst complexion in the world, this inappropriate nasty woman had no right to ever make me feel anything less than amazing. So no, I didn’t tell her to go F$%& herself, but I’m telling it to all of you. She can go F#$% herself.
Good…so glad I got that off of my chest. That felt really good to say. Thanks for listening.
My song of the day is “Doll Parts” by Hole. You know…that 90′s band where Courtney Love used to be the lead singer. Maybe I thought of this song to go along with the topic because the album it was on was called “Celebrity Skin.” Regardless…nobody needs to put their two cents in at all about my “Doll Parts.” They’re mine, and anything negative said about them is just hurtful. There’s no other way around it. So click HERE to listen to this song and leave my “Doll Parts” alone!
