Domestic Disaster In The Mad House

Posted on the 26 March 2012 by Therealsupermum @TheRealSupermum

So its 3am and I am yet to even have the opportunity of closing my eyes. I have both Kody almost 2 and Kaiden almost 3 covered head to toe with chickenpox, Kaiden has now got them in his mouth. I sleepily run a bath at 2am thinking the warm water would sooth and help him sleep but no, he refused to even take his clothes off. So out comes the Calpol and calamine lotion.

5am and I finally get to close my eyes, it feels like I have been sleeping for 10 minutes when I hear the alarm bleeping, are you mad? I am not getting up, the kids can have a day off school I think as I drift back off to sleep.

Its 10am and the husband wakes me, the two boys are still fast asleep beside me in their travel cots. I have been sleeping on the sofa for the last 3 nights now and it doesn’t like me any more than I like it, my poor neck and back hurts. But it means the rest of the house can sleep without being woken. He has already taken the two elder children to school and has washed up from breakfast and tidied up the kitchen.

He makes me a coffee and says he will put some washing in as the sun is shining, while I sit and fill up on much needed caffeine.

Emma, can you help me” he shouts

I enter the kitchen and have to laugh, so much for helping me do the washing, the whole contents from the box of washing powder is on my kitchen floor.

Matt's attempt at helping with the washing!

At lunch time Kaiden decides he does not want anything and instead screams for Wheeto’s, so thats what hes given. He has been off his food these last few days, so anything is better than nothing right? He also does not want to sit in his highchair so I take them to him as he is snuggled with his blanket on the sofa.

I return to find them all over the floor, that I have just hoovered.

Kaiden's choice of lunch

Thankfully both boys fall asleep for the rest of the afternoon and I am able to catch up on the housework, with so many of us in the house there is always a huge list of chores to do. I manage to get all towels out on the line and hoover and dust all rooms before the boys wake again. The husband goes to collect the others from school and I only have the kitchen floor to mop, so think giving the boys an ice lolly will keep them quiet, but what another bad move. Yes you guessed it, they sit on the sofa watching for dad coming back and put their ice lolly on my windowsill, yes the one I had just dusted.

The boys leave me a nice thank you present

So the kids arrive back from school and throw their coats and shoes all over the entrance to the house, I sometimes wonder why I bother with housework at all, the more I clean up the more they make a mess.

Why Do I Bother?

Matt kindly offers to entertain the kids while I start preparing tea and off he goes to grab the xbox controller. Tea is on and the eldest kids return from the park just in time to slot in homework before sitting down to eat, my back and neck are still sore and I want a hot bath and an early night, but I know bedtime is a long way off yet.

Hubby entertaining the kids?

By super time the kids are showing no signs of wanting to sleep, it looks like the afternoon nap has fueled them with more energy. Thankfully they have not been whining or scratching as much today either, but I know come bedtime, things will change … welcome to a domestic disaster day in the mad house. I dread to think what tomorrow will bring.
