Don’t Stop Believing, #1170

The blog post that I’m writing today has been brewing in me for a couple of days now.  It’s hard when you don’t have time to write, but I guess that something is really important to you when you can’t stop thinking of it.  So, here it is.

This past Sunday, my daughter participated in a 5K run with an amazing girl’s group called “Girls On the Run.”  This program is fantastic, as it teaches girls positive self esteem and values through running.

My daughter has some limitations with running.  Her feet point outwards when she walks and after two separate visits to an orthopedic pediatric specialist, we discovered the real issue is with the rotation of her hips – not her feet.  It’s actually a physical problem that can only be corrected through invasive surgery, and the doctors all feel that if she’s not in pain, there’s no reason to put her through that.

Still, despite it, my daughter stuck through the program and was determined to complete the 5K.  She didn’t run.  Instead she walked it, but it was such a huge obstacle for her, and she did it!  My determined girl crossed the finish line, and boy does she feel proud!  I have to say that I feel pretty darn proud, as well, because I love how determined she was!  Way to go, sweet girl!

My song for her today is Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing,” because it’s that attitude that leads to success, and she did it all on her own.
