Dorset Woodland Wedding at Home: Bridal Preparation

Posted on the 15 November 2017 by Belinda Mccarthy @b_mccarthyphoto

It's time to revisit a truly wonderful wedding day that I had the pleasure of photographing this summer, here in my home county of Dorset. This particular wedding was one I had been looking forward to documenting for a long time, for it was to be held in the spectacular surroundings of the bride's family home, with the ceremony being held in the great outdoors in their own woodland.

However we'll get to the ceremony and all the beautiful ways that the wedding party decorated that wonderful woodland in a future blog - for now, I'd like to bring you some of my favourite images from the start of the day, the bridal preparations. As the wedding guests were arriving during the bridal prep for drinks outside by the marquee, it was exciting for the wedding party to watch the comings and goings... and of course, with the aim of keeping themselves hidden until the ceremony!

Bridal preparation at home is always what I term 'beautiful chaos' - for even the largest of family homes isn't typically set up to accommodate lots of people getting ready for a wedding, often in just one room! I often have brides worrying that the room looks 'a mess', but for me, it's simply the accoutrements of a wedding day, and each 'messy' little detail tells a story. Of course, when I'm photographing the bridal prep, if there is something which really shouldn't be in a shot, I'll move it - so supermarket carrier bags won't be detracting from your wedding pictures!. However, I am careful not to move anything relevant to the wedding itself - or at least, to make sure I put it back where I found it - as in the middle of that 'beautiful chaos' there is normally a system in place... and a misplaced bag, pair of earrings or shoes could set off a panic!

So back to this wonderful wedding, which took place on a particularly hot and sunny day at the end of this summer. It always puts joy into my heart to look back at images taken on such a beautiful day... particularly now, when it's cold and wet outside!

I do hope you enjoy these insights into this truly amazing Dorset woodland wedding day, and give you a taste of what's to come! If you're even thinking of getting married outside in woodland, then I highly recommend you keep an eye out for the images to come in future blogs. We often use the word 'magical' to describe a wedding ceremony, but getting married outside in such a mesmerising location really was more than magical.
