Down at the Watering Hole!

Posted on the 07 August 2013 by Mikidemann @mikidemann
I have spoken about how much I love my neighborhood before. I feel like every one that you meet is willing to stop and have a quick conversation. They may just stop to kiss Indiana, talk about how green our lawn looks (thank you, Jared!), or even just introduce themselves. Either way it's a close-knit neighborhood. There are benefits to this and there are consequences. Jared and I hit our community watering hole, some people may call this a hot tub, about 3-4 times a week. There are usually a few people soaking. Some are regulars and some I have never seen before.
It's really entertaining to go down there and hear kids talk about their parents, not knowing, that we know their parents. Hear girlfriends talk about their non live-in boyfriends and then bring their men another night. It's like we are flies on the wall and we get to see so many sides of a person.
There is a lady in our neighborhood who has one lived there for only a few months and already has made a VERY drunken name for herself. Every time I am down at the watering hole, I hear someone telling a story about her, and she is rarely sober in the stories or in real life. Either she said something inappropriate, tried to latch onto a man who wasn't interested, or a man that WAS interested... so interested to the point where innocent bystanders had to give them their own space.
There is the milf of the neighborhood, the one that knows she's in her late 40's and is still milking it for all it's got! Man oh man, I can testify that it works for her, too. You would not believe the negotiations she works out while visiting the hot tub for 20 minutes. She gets her car detailed, carpets cleaned, and who knows what else!
There's the well connected one, she knows everything about everyone! If she doesn't know them personally she still knows everything about them. You can learn all the tragedies and triumphs through her.
After getting very acquainted with our watering hole buddies, it makes me wonder.... What are we to the rest of the neighborhood. I imagine we're somewhat memorable, maybe not the milf, the olympist, the drunk, the networker -- but we have to have some identifier. I wonder what it is! Maybe the bulldog family?
What do you think your identifier is to your neighbors?
