Birthday girls at Sweet Tomatoes
I wonder if most adults feel the way I do and can’t stand the restaurant Sweet Tomatoes with as much disdain as I feel. There’s nothing I really like about the restaurant at all. It’s a buffet, so you end up eating too much food that’s not even really good. You can just tell that their quality lacks even though the idea of all-you-can-eat soup and salad appeals.
We rarely go to Sweet Tomatoes, but when asked where my daughter would like to spend her birthday dinner, it was her first choice. We tried swaying her and eventually got her to concede to sushi instead, but when we realized our favorite sushi spot was closed on Sunday nights, there was no turning back.
I know what it is that my daughter loves so much about Sweet Tomatoes. To her, this is a restaurant that represents freedom in her little 10-year-old world. She is free to roam around the restaurant as she pleases, is free to make choices about what she wants to eat and gets to pick over several types of her very favorite food – soup. No wonder she loves the place so much.
So, we celebrated at one of my least favorite restaurants. The adults all groaned at the idea of going there, but the youngest birthday girl (she shares a birthday with her Grandma whose celebration was the previous evening), was as happy as can be. Everyone deserves to have their dreams fulfilled on their birthday, after all.
That is why my song of the day is “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac -for my little girl who is full of dreams big and small. At least this is one dream that I don’t need to fulfill for another year!
