Early Morning

Posted on the 19 July 2012 by Crushland @crushland

On my first morning in Wenzhou I awoke extra early (on account of jet-lag) and took a walk down the road from the hotel. This is a mainly industrial area and was surprised to find such a bustling suburban atmosphere: people on their way to work and going about their daily chores and kids going to school. Nobody understood English here and I needed to buy airtime.. but there are no hand signals for that! Without looking like: “Can I use your phone?” “I want to buy a phone” “I’m going to steal your phone but I’m smiling and asking nicely first”. And when I say I don’t speak Chinese, most people respond by speaking louder so that I can hear better. Really?Early morningAll that humidity! My hair was toast.
