Early Morning

On my first morning in Wenzhou I awoke extra early (on account of jet-lag) and took a walk down the road from the hotel. This is a mainly industrial area and was surprised to find such a bustling suburban atmosphere: people on their way to work and going about their daily chores and kids going to school. Nobody understood English here and I needed to buy airtime.. but there are no hand signals for that! Without looking like: “Can I use your phone?” “I want to buy a phone” “I’m going to steal your phone but I’m smiling and asking nicely first”. And when I say I don’t speak Chinese, most people respond by speaking louder so that I can hear better. Really? All that humidity! My hair was toast. They see me rollin’.Down a side streetMotor-bike parking lotBy the riverThere is a little net on the end, not for fishing, just poking around. Was he cleaning the river?I wonder if he lives in here.Looks just like any other cat, nothing Chinesey here.Jackfruit, the world’s smelliest fruit. Not joking. Back at the hotel.
