Get a statement bed: The bed is without a doubt the main feature of the room and the rest of the furniture should fit around it. It’ll set the tone of the room, so it’s your opportunity to make a real character filled statement! Go for a fancy head board, pay attention to bed spreads, it’s the first thing you and everyone else will notice!
Pay attention to walls: Statement wallpapers always work well and can really brighten up a room. Even if this isn’t your thing, repainting a wall is an easy, cheap and a quick way to give new life to your bedroom. Paintings and family photos cost next to nothing and will personalise it your space.
Mirror mirror on the wall: It’s well known that mirrors make any room look larger by reflecting the light, not to mention a must have in a bedroom. Depending how big your room is, don’t be afraid to have more than one.
Colour: Even for those of you who don’t know much about interior design, everyone knows that a color scheme is basic. Your room will really come together if you stick rigidly to a colour scheme, so make your choice wisely. Pick a few bold colours then a couple of neutrals to get that stunning balance.
Rearrange your furniture: You don’t even need to spend a penny to get a fresh space. Moving your furniture around is a totally free way of feeling like you’ve got a completely new room. Perhaps even introduce furniture from another room, it might fit perfectly in your bedroom and you might not even of known…
New bedding: If you’re not in the mood for splashing out on new furniture, new walls or new flooring then this is a relatively inexpensive way of changing the look of the room. As we’ve already discussed, the bed is the main feature of the room and the bed sheets certainly add to this influence, so consider changing them.
Rug it up: Rugs always add extra character and warmth to a room, especially if you have hard wood floors. With so many different patterns, materials and thicknesses available, you can pretty much choose exactly what it is you want.
Pillows: Pillows are a great and inexpensive way of adding character and charisma to a room. They fill an empty space that is otherwise void and you can match them up with your color scheme. Don’t overdo it though, they shouldn’t take up more than half of your bed.
Don’t make everything match: It is tempting to get everything to match and make it just so, but rooms with a bit of color variation and patterns have more personality. Don’t be shy…
