At the weekend we celebrated Ethan's 8th birthday! It was such a lovely sunny day - we got so fortunate with the weather especially considering that we'd booked a bouncy castle for him for the day as a surprise.
He started the day opening presents at home with us, we had got him lots of Zelda related things as Zelda Breath of the Wild is currently his favorite game to play on the Nintendo Switch, we also bought him some Pokemon cards and some other things to do. I filmed a video on my youtube channel where I show some of the things that we bought for his 8th birthday - Gift ideas for 6-8 year olds - if you'd like to watch.
Once he'd opened his presents and had a chance to look at and play with some of them, we headed over to my Mum's garden for Ethan to see his grandparents and his Auntie on my side of the family. Last year on his birthday we were in a full lockdown and so we couldn't leave the house or see anyone else, so this year it felt so nice to be able to meet with family outdoors!
And after we'd spent some time at my Mum's we headed over to my in-laws where the bouncy castle surprise was waiting for him. I couldn't wait for them to see it! We'd booked it at my in-laws house because we have artificial grass and it couldn't be set up on the artificial grass as it needed to be pegged into the ground, so we were very lucky that my in laws very kindly let us use their garden. They also decorated the whole garden with bunting and balloons for him, which was such a lovely thing for them to do!
As soon as they walked into the garden and saw the bouncy castle, they slid their shoes straight off and were bouncing around on it with huge smiles on their faces. It cost £70 top hire for the day and it was the best £70 I've spent in a while - the boys played on it all day long!
And again, it was so nice to be able to visit some family and be around others. The ease in the rules bus restrictions and the return of the sunshine has been SO amazing, we've definitely been appreciating the little things more than ever following the past year!
I took this photo at the weekend on Ethan’s birthday and I absolutely love it. I’m definitely a bit in denial that he’s growing up and is 8 now! But also I’m super proud of the little person that he is! 🥰
We ended the day with a Mario birthday cake and Domino's Pizza, though the boys didn't eat much of the pizza, as they'd filled up on party rings and mini cakes all day - which is exactly what you expect at a kids birthday party! ;)
