At the moment he has a few favourites that he tends to pick out most nights when he goes to choose his bedtime stories. If I was to pick what I believe to be his most favourite, it would have to be 'We're going on a bear hunt', which makes me feel very pleased as it's actually a book I picked out way before I even thought about having children.
I was working on the non-food department in Tesco in my late teens when I spotted it on the shelf. 'We're going on a bear hunt' was a story I adored as a child myself and I thought to myself that if I was ever to have kids one day I'd love to be able to read it to them. So I brought it and I kept in my memory box, until one day I found it again after I'd had Ethan and I added it to his book collection.
He also really enjoys the Spot the dog books, which oddly enough were another of my true favourites as a child myself. I want to get him some of the Biff and Chip books, (who remembers those?), I loved reading them at school when I was younger and I'd like to see what Ethan thinks of them.
Ethans a big fan of the lift-the-flap books and books that give you some way of interacting with them, like buttons you can press that then make noises. Chug Chug Tractor is another favorite of his.
His books have been sourced from lots of different places. We love taking him in big book shops and letting him pick out a book as a treat, The Works is a place that sell lots of inexpensive children books and we also love finding new books in charity shops - we've picked up some great books by fantastic authors second hand before for as little as just 10p. I'm forever browsing online websites like Amazon, finding and adding new books to my basket and then 'saving them for later' for when any occasions come up - with his birthday coming up in just a few weeks, I've already got my eye on a few new books for him.
I love that Ethan is a little bookworm, I spent many a day with my head in book as a child imagining and escaping to array of different worlds. I think reading has always been and will hopefully continue to always be a really important part of children's lives.
