Everything You Need to Know About Invisalign Braces

If you are considering straightening your teeth, or your children need to, you must consider Invisalign. Invisalign braces offer all the benefits of traditional metal braces, without many of the negatives!

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment that uses clear retainers to straighten your teeth, just like braces, but without the unsightly wires. When worn, Invisalign is nearly undetectable and is custom made specifically for your teeth. Unlike braces, you are able to remove Invisalign retainers, which is useful when eating or snacking. There will be no risks of getting sticky food stuck in your braces! Simply take out the tray, eat food, brush and floss your teeth, and then put your aligners back in. Your clear aligners, also known as trays, are designed specifically for your teeth and are switched out every two weeks. Together, each tray helps gradually straighten your smile.
Over 8 million people, including 1.4 million teenagers, trust Invisalign transparent aligners to straighten teeth and give them a beautiful smile.

Is Invisalign Effective?

The quick response is "yes". Additionally, Invisalign can be more effective than conventional metal braces depending on your particular circumstances!
Invisalign has been proven to fix the following orthodontic problems:
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Overcrowding
  • Spacing
The treatment time is around 6-18 months and varys from patient to patient depending on the complexity of the issue.

Is Invisalign Painful?

When the teeth are first shifting into place during treatment, most patients will feel some discomfort. Additionally, while they adjust to their new aligner and shifting takes place, patients may feel discomfort every two weeks for a few days. You take your Invisalign aligners out to eat, drink and brush and floss your teeth, but you are advised to wear them for the rest of the day. It is worth noting that the discomfort when teeth are shifting is similar to what you experience with traditional braces. However with traditional braces you often also have mouth and gum problems, such as cuts and ulcers, which you will not experience with invisalign.

How Much Does Invisalign Cost?

The price can vary a lot and differs from patient to patient. Invisalign treatment can cost from £1,595 to £7,000 depending on the complexity of the issue. Contact an Invisalign doctor to find out exactly how much your treatment would cost.

The Process

Step 1

You will first consult with an orthodontist. A treatment plan will be decided upon during the initial appointment, and bite impressions will be taken. The personalised trays or aligners for your orthodontic treatment will be created by Invisalign using the bite impressions the orthodontist sends to them.

Step 2

Your bite impressions will be converted using 3D imaging technology into personalised aligners for your treatment. Twelve to forty-eight aligners, similar to traditional braces, will be created for you, depending on your specific needs, to straighten your teeth.

Step 3

You'll get your Invisalign trays or aligners. These are most likely coming from your dentist or orthodontist. As you receive these all at once, you do not have to frequently go back in for appointments, like you do with braces.

Step 4

You will then start wearing your aligners for 22 hours a day. Every tray is worn for two weeks at a time. Between six and eighteen months are required for the entire Invisalign treatment process.
