If you haven’t noticed from this week’s posts, I’ve been in a little funk—from our disappointing house hunting search to my struggle with my exercise envy.  When I get into a life funk, I generally find that they only way I can get out of it is to remember the blessings I have been granted by God.

Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.  And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:16-17

Scripture very clearly shows us that we are always to give thanks and praise to Him, for without Him we are nothing.  And when you set your heart on giving praise and thanks to God, it’s hard to feel disillusioned or upset, for He has given us so much more than we deserve.

So when I recognize that my heart and my spirit have been dampened by life, I actively force myself to remember all the graciousness God has extended to me.

He gave me MY LIFE.

He gave me MY HUSBAND.

He gave me MY FAMILY.

He gave me MY JOB.

He gave me MY FRIENDS.

He gave me MY WARM HOME.

He gave me MY FULL BELLY.

As I mentally scroll through the list of my abundant graces, my heart has no choice but to lighten.  Because in the larger picture of this world, I have receive more bountiful love from Christ than I could ever measure.

So the next time you feel that funk setting in on your soul, just start repeating your life’s blessing out loud.  I assure you that there’s no way you can be disgruntled after that.
