No other city in the UK offers quite the same range of activities as London. Any families within easy reach of the ‘big smoke’ should definitely consider heading down for a day or two and getting involved in the many things there are to do.
There’s no better time for a family trip than Easter, when a number of the city’s major organisations set up different events designed with younger children in mind.
Today, we’re going to look at three of the biggest Easter extravaganzas taking place in London this year:
Kew Gardens
It’s fair to say that for many young people, the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew might not spring out as being an adrenaline-fuelled thrill ride. However, during the Easter period they have a tendency to really push the boat out, offering a number of different activities including:-A full Easter Egg Hunt set throughout the different gardens. The natural beauty of the gardens provides the ideal backdrop for an adventure.-The chance for the kids to take inspiration from Willy Wonka in creating their own chocolate bar, working alongside an expert chef from the Roald Dahl Museum Café.-The opportunity for the children to enjoy a whole afternoon of drawing and colouring at the Waterlilly House. This is ideal for those children that love to be creative.-Face painting. A classic family activity, Kew offers the chance for little ones to be transformed into everything from a zebra to Spiderman.

Kensington Palace
One of the most stunning palaces in the capital, Kensington is another venue known for putting on specific, family-focused events during the Easter period.
This year’s activities include:
-The Easter Egg Hunt, but with a difference. This year’s Easter Egg Hunt at Kensington is going to be something a bit special: at the end of it all, everyone gets to meet Queen Caroline! What’s more, there will be a chocolate prize given for every correct code word that the little ones manage to provide. The sharper kids are going to be feeling pretty full by the end of the day!
-Dressing up to die for! This event is ideal for the little ones, who’ll be given the chance to get involved in the world of Georgian wigs and makeup, as well as getting the chance to enjoy storytelling workshops from a number of experts in the time period. There might also be the chance to learn a lesson or two from the Master of Etiquette, who’s always keen to let everyone know how they should behave in the Royal Court!
-The Doodle Club. Another great event for young children, the Doodle Club is a free activity that takes place between 12 and 2 every lunchtime, so it’s ideal for keeping the little ones occupied whilst mom and dad head off for a relaxing bite to eat. It’s worth noting that the Doodle Club is extremely popular, so anyone looking to take part should book in advance.

Sadler’s Wells
Palace trips and stately homes are a common and popular destination for family days (as the other two destinations on this list show!), but for those that want something a bit different, Sadler’s Wells Theatre is well worth a visit. Based in Clerkenwell, Sadler’s Wells puts on some of the most stunning dance performances in the UK, and has set out a whole weekend of performances tailor-made for families:
-Deep in the Woods is a new interactive show detailing the journeys of a little girl who bravely ventures into a magical wood. The most thrilling aspect of the performance is that the audience gets to be involved in the story, providing the shadows and lights that make up the spellbinding backdrop.
-balletLORENT’S Rapunzel is the other main performance of the family weekend. This stunning re-imagining of the girl whose cascade of hair allowed her to escape from a tall tower is a who’s who of UK talent. Written by Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy and choreographed by Liv Lorent, the performance also features narration from the critically acclaimed Lesley Sharp and music from Murray Gold, the composer perhaps best known for his work on the BBC’s Doctor Who.
