The yearly holiday with the family is a great time of year, but if you’re planning to go to Spain, the overwhelming choice of sun-soaked destinations can make deciding where to go a tricky business. However, we’ve knocked up a family-friendly list of Spain holiday options that will please adults and children alike (plus we’ve thrown in a few travel tips), so you the only thing you have to worry about is how soon you can get there:
Costa Dorada
Often called the Golden Coast because of its numerous beaches set in secluded coves, Costa Dorada is a great family option. The area features lots of traditional Spanish villages and you can explore this area with your children, and when they’ve had their fill of history and the heat, the whole family can head to La Pineda, a large water park that is located close to Tarragona. In fact, Costa Dorada offers a whole host of family friendly attractions, such as archery and abseiling at Climbing Planet, or Aqua Leon, another water park which has the added advantage of offering an exciting animal safari for kids.
Costa Del Sol
Family Holidays in Spain
Costa Del Sol’s location makes it ideal for aquatic activities like snorkelling, the region being just one Spain holidays option you can experience with First Choice. It’s worth doing some research on the marine life of the area and turn learning into a game by challenging your children to look for local fish and corals. There are also some great theme parks to check out such as Aqualand Torremolinos with its exciting waterslides, or embrace your wild side and check out the crocodiles at Cocodrilos Park.
Costa Brava
Family Holidays in Spain

This area can be found in the north-east of Spain and features both pebble and sandy beaches. The seaside resort of Blanes can be found in the south of Costa Brava and features a couple of large botanical gardens for families who can bear to tear themselves away from the beach to explore. There are plenty of thrills and spills to enjoy at Aqua Brava, which boasts the biggest wave pool in the whole of Europe, while taking a ride in a glass bottom boat to Isles Medes is an experience that the whole family are sure to remember for a long time to come.
A few holiday tips…
One of the main challenges that parents face when packing is deciding how many toys the kids will be allowed to take with them. Our advice is to keep this to a minimum. Suggest to your children that they take two toys and a book/tablet. The kids will be too busy hitting the surf and the sand to play with their toys from home anyway.
Things like toiletries and sun tan lotion can be bought abroad, and if you pack cleverly, you will be able to carry your luggage on board instead of checking it in, giving you and your family the mobility to leave the airport and get to your holiday as quick as possible.
Aside from the toys you allow your children to pack, keep some colouring books and activities with you for the plane. When you present them to your children, it will be a fun surprise, and colouring books are surprisingly soothing and absorbing for kids. Small snacks are worth bringing too, to ensure your child’s energy level stays even to prevent tantrums and tears.
That’s it, all our travel tips in one handy guide. We hope this has helped narrow down your search and will relieve any travel stress, so you can get on with relaxing and enjoying your holiday.
